As a yacht broker, I've had many opportunities to go for a "Sea Trial". For the most part, my power boat sea trials have been on your typical mono hulls; deep-vee, displacement and semi-displacement hulls. Last month I was invited out for my second sea trial on the Buzzards Bay 34. Wow was I impressed. The first time I went out on the Buzzards Bay 34 it was relatively calm therefore, I did not get the real experience of the Chris White designed power cat. This time around it was blowing between 25-30 kts and kicking up some 5-6' waves, this 34 foot boat ate it up! We were literally doing 25 kts through the water right into the chop and to say it is the best ride I have ever experienced in a boat under 40' would be an understatement. The Buzzards Bay 34 is built on a displacement hull and features very high bridge deck clearance above the water, so she is not planning across the top of the water she is actually slicing through it. This design allows the boat to stay connected to the water, instead of jumping out of the water slamming along from wave top to wave top, a prominent characteristic of typical planning hull boats of this class. We took the opportunity to run across the waves as well as down the waves. At all points the Buzzards Bay 34 was equally impressive. I know what you may be thinking, "He's a yacht broker who is trying to sell the boat, what do you expect him to say? The only thing I have to say is, go ahead and call my bluff. We will gladly take you out for a ride. Be warned, you will probably end up as the proud owner of a brand new Buzzards Bay 34! Regards, JP Skov, CPYB Northstar Yacht Sales.
